Knit Kitty

So, you may remember the Sheep I knit last month for Stacey’s birthday. Well, when she showed it to her niece, Alice, she asked if I could make her a kitty! And, I had just the pattern in mind :)

Pattern: Knitted Kitty
Started: June 25, 2011
Completed: June 26, 2011
Yarn: Body – Knit Picks Gloss DK in White; Backpack – Lily Sugar’n Cream Ombres & Prints in Patio Pinks

Since the sheep had a removable coat, I wanted something similar for the kitty. I decided a coat would be too difficult based on the kitty’s body, so I came up with a backpack instead! The backpack is removable and also opens and closes so Alice can put a little something in there if she wants to. I’ve already put a little surprise in there for her :)

Since I didn’t have a pattern for the backpack, I just made up my own:

CO 7
Stockinette stitch – about 2.5 inches
Decrease 1 stitch at the beginning & end of next knit row (SSK, K2TOG)
Next row: Purl
Next row (buttonhole): K2, YO, K2TOG, K
Next row: Knit
BO purlwise

Fold knitted strip so the flap closes over the backpack and can be closed with a button. Seam up sides of backpack and attach the button.

I braided 3 pieces of yarn (1 of each color except white) for each strap and attached them to the backpack.

I hope Alice likes her little Kitty! I’ll be giving it to her next month :)

  1. Aren’t you the clever one? I love your photographs, too. Very creative! The little girl will love it.
