Today we went to a couple of museums in Denver. The first place we went was the Forney Museum of Transportation. They have antique cars, trains, bicycles, etc. It was interesting to see how some of our current vehicles started out! One of the final items we saw was something about Molly Brown, which leads us to our next stop…
The house has been restored to the way it looked in 1910 based on original photographs and research. They had the house decorated for Halloween (it would have been cool to go on their Victorian Horrors tour). One of the things I learned on this tour was that “Molly” Brown never went by the name Molly. Her name was actually Margaret Tobin Brown, and her nickname was Maggie. After the sinking of the Titanic, she became known as the “Unsinkable Mrs. Brown”, and the press erroneously started calling her the “Unsinkable Molly Brown”. When a musical was being created about Mrs. Brown’s life, “Molly” sounded better and rhymed with nicer words than Maggie.
