Yesterday was a busy day! We started out bright and early with donuts and coffee :)
We drove 2 1/2 hours down to Canon City for the Royal Gorge Route Railroad. It was a beautiful day and we were able to spend part of our time on the train in the open-air car. The train route goes through the 12 mile canyon of the Royal Gorge, with the Arkansas River on one side and a steep wall of igneous rocks on the other side.
The train ride lasted 2 hours and was a fun way to see the Royal Gorge. Once we got back to the depot, we drove up to the Royal Gorge Bridge and Park. We wanted to see what the river and railroad looked like from the top of the gorge. They were tiny!
Here we are at the top of the Royal Gorge with the suspension bridge behind us.
Then we drove up to Colorado Springs to have dinner at the Flying W Ranch. We had a wonderful steak dinner that included biscuits with honey-butter…yum! After dinner, the The Flying W Wranglers (who also happened to be our waiters), entertained us with their “western stage show”. What a great way to end the day!
