R.I.P. V Challenge

So, it’s time once again for the R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril V Challenge! Ok, so I’m a little late since it actually started September 1st, but there’s still plenty of time to join if you’re interested!

What is the R.I.P. Challenge? According to Carl of Stainless Steel Droppings:

“It was a dark and stormy night…”

Or at least I wish it was, rather than a warm, sunshiny day. Despite the weather refusing to cooperate with my gothic mood, the calendar does not lie, ladies and gentlemen. It is indeed that time of year where two short months are dedicated to reveling in all things creepy, eerie, mysterious, gothic, horrifying, suspenseful and strange.

It is time to celebrate things that go bump in the night; that favorite detective that always gets his man, or woman, in the end; that delicious chill of a creak on the stairs, of the rogue waiting in the dark, of the full moon and the flit of bats wings.

Carl has been hosting this fun challenge for the past 5 years. It’s the perfect time to read one (or many) of the following types of books:

  • Mystery
  • Suspense
  • Thriller
  • Dark Fantasy
  • Gothic
  • Horror
  • Supernatural

I love reading these kinds of books, so I’m going to participate in ‘Peril The First’ and try reading 4 books.

  3. The Magicians and Mrs. Quent by Galen M. Beckett
  4. Psycho by Robert Bloch

  3. I’m reading Stranger In A Strange Land, the author’s original version, which is longer than the edited one from the 60s. It ‘might’ fit in the Supernatural category, but I’m not sure.

  5. I would suggest a book called “The Magicians and Mrs. Quent” by Galen Beckett. Sort of Jane Austin meets Jane Eyre meets Rebecca meets Harry Potter. My mom and I both really enjoyed it and it would fit the theme. Let me know if you would like to borrow my copy. :-)
