Charlie’s Condition

Thanks for all of your kind words and good vibes! Keep ’em coming if you don’t mind. We got the results from the vet today; it wasn’t what I wanted to hear, but it wasn’t as bad as it could be.

Sadly, Charlie does have the beginning stage of kidney failure. Luckily, her test results aren’t too far outside of the normal range, so I think we will be able to treat the problem and keep her comfortable. Nathan and I are taking Charlie to the vet tomorrow to learn how to give her subcutaneous fluids at home. The test results show that she’s a little dehydrated, so I’m hoping she’ll start feeling better tomorrow after she gets some more fluids.

Kennedy did a little better with the acupuncture today. She actually kept most of the needles in for the appropriate amount of time. The poor thing just starts shaking when we get to the vet’s office and she really doesn’t like to be there. Next Thursday will be her 3rd session and I hope she’s able to be a little more relaxed.

  1. Well, I’m glad you found out about Charlie in the early stages so you can help her right away! When my Mommeh volunteered at the shelter, she gave sub-q fluids all the time, and she said do not be worried, it is very easy once you get used to it.

  2. Oh Terrie… I’m so sorry. BUT! I gave Pop’s first Shadow fluids every weekday (his daughter and DIL covered the weekends) for quite some time, and he was in advanced kidney failure when they caught it. It is very easy, and I hope Charlie will be as good of a patient as Shadow was.
